How can I make my thoughts and emotions one?
-
"When his thoughts and emotions became one he could move mountains with his mind." I know combining thoughts and emotions is possible, it IS a very hard things to learn and understand. If anybody has grasped this concept please help.

Answer:
I haven't grasped the concept, but I know much progress can be made by always acting "as if" what I am aiming for has already been accomplished, thinking and feeling what it's like to have achieved my goal. I have found that this can work having any objective in sight, but the consequences and responsibility always come with the accomplishment, so it is best to try and act with "selfless" motives, in other words, as if it is for the best for all. This has been called "visualization."

Emotions are thoughts, therefore inseparable from the concept of thought. However, emotions operate subconsciously. Over-ridding the subconscious slows us down and may confuse the brain (Eagleman). Also, emotions evoke physical reactions through neural connections independent of voluntary muscle movement (Mason). But our conscious mind is tasked with programming the subconscious mind, which is exemplified by the learning curve when taking on a new task. At first it is difficult, them "muscle memory" is formed that makes the task easier because the need for conscious thought is reduced (Eagleman). Guided imagery is a common technique in improving athletic performance and in cancer treatment, among other things. It involves mentally picturing a specific image or goal and imagining oneself achieving that goal. Those with cancer are taught to imagine their bodies fighting cancer cells and athletes are taught to see themselves executing their stressful behavior with proper form. In this case, one could imagine the creation of new neural connections and weakening of old neural connections (or both). Guided imagery: http://www.healthjourneys.com/free_audio.asp Eagleman, David. The habit-pattern of the mind is to react to emotions. This is human nature, but it is also human nature to recognize that reacting to emotions is not always the best path-of-action. Furthermore, the mind's reaction to emotion is the source of suffering. Emotions are a natural reaction to various stimuli; they should be expected to arise in various circumstances (such as somebody close passing away). But emotions arising in the mind is not suffering; suffering is a reaction of the mind to emotions. The path to overcoming suffering is to change the habit-pattern of the mind. One does so over time through the practice of not reacting. Instead of reacting, one simply observes the sensations of the body/mind, while maintaining equanimity. Through continued practice, one changes the old habit of reacting to emotion. This is accomplished through meditation, as others have already answered. Vipassana meditation is especially helpful (it is a non-religious meditation technique). points out, thanks to the wisdom of his own experiences, that sometimes there is not time to stop and think. Sometimes one has to react quickly. Changing the habit-pattern of the mind is not limited to conscious thought; subconscious thought is also influenced. The subconscious mind also benefits from not being clouded/blinded by emotion.

I think you need to look at what EMOTIONS are, bc. your question shows confusion. While you are at it, you might also want to try to understand what "thoughts" are, bc. you don't know that either. What you consider to be thoughts is really a very small part of your thought process. Most people call "thoughts" their inner dialogue, which is the only bit of their inner works they are sometimes aware of. Emotions are a turbulent mix of many different mental and physical ingredients: Inner dialogue, mental films and pictures, muscle tension, posture to just name some of the more obvious ones. You can see that you are suffering from confused categories and nebulous concepts. But for what it's worth: Your first step is to clarify exactly what is happening, and accepting exactly what is happening which will take the next 20-30 years, provided you find a good meditation teacher. Looking at some of the stuff the NLP guys have come up with might help the theoretical underpinnings. By that time you will have made enough progress to look back at your initial question, shake your head and wonder how you could ever have asked something like that.

Thoughts can be ideas, strategy, plans and dreams. Emotions are reaction to an incident. Or feelings for someone, which can be positive or negative. EMOTIONS CAN BE THOUGHTS. BUT NOT ALL THOUGHTS ARE EMOTIONS.
