Unwanted Google search results of me?

Are Google's "enhanced" search results listings negatively impacting organic search results?

  • With all the enhancements to Google's search results listings pages, I am trying to find out how this impacts (negatively or positively) the organic search results listings. I can in particular mention Google News, Google Videos, Google Local Business results showing up at the top of search results. Might it not be a better idea to focus ones SEM (Search Engine Marketing) efforts on those particular Google services?

  • Answer:

I have to ask - negative to who? Many people would argue that the enhanced results are a net benefit to users. But from the perspective of a site owner, the enhanced results definitely mean that you need to diversify your strategy. Without question, enhanced results are impacting the CTR of traditional organic results, which are often now well below the fold. Still, I wouldn't call it a negative impact, even as an SEO and a site owner. Video, places, image, and news results are being populated organically, and oftentimes these are easier venues to rank for more difficult keywords (video in particular is where I would start.) When I see a lot of blended results with news, videos, and realtime results, I see those more as openings in a competitive field than obstacles.
