How much would providing workers with a humane work environment increase the per unit cost of an iPhone?

Most of the discussion on Foxconn is ill-informed: if you were to work in a Chinese factory then Foxconn is probably one of the best. The suicide rate there is less than the average in China or in USA, The work conditions are pretty good - almost certainly better than work conditions in the factory that made your shirt, shoes or TV. Remember, China is still (on average) a poor country and for people working at Foxconn is way better than anything their parents had (peasant farmers) or the alternatives. If you were to protest about work conditions there might be other priorities, not least closer to home. That said, the cost of labour is not significant (a couple of dollars).
