How to store information?

How can I ask Gati logistics chain to not to store my personal information in their system without my permission?

  • These days, whenever I make a call to the Gati logistics chain, India, they greet me with my name. They have stored my name, personal number and my place in their system. When i inquire them of how can they my store my details without my permission, they don't have an answer. I would not like any company to store my personal information without my consent. What should I do in this case?

  • Answer:

You can try contacting their customer service requesting them to remove your details from their database, if you haven't already done so. Companies today always maintain a customer database recording information which would help them in: Servicing their clients better. E.g. information like name, phone no., address which are required each time a service is requested. Instead of asking all details every time the customer calls, they retrieve all data from a single variable like phone no.. This helps them in improving their operational efficiency. Also, some customers may find it convenient that they don't need to provide the same info every time they make a request. Knowing their markets. Parameters like age, location, gender etc. help companies analyze their markets and make plans accordingly. Every company which stores such customer information should have a privacy policy regarding the information details, usage and access restrictions. You can ask them about their privacy policy.
