What do accountants do?

What would lawyers, accountants, and bankers do in the apocalypse?

• After consuming a lot of post-apocalyptic media, including Stephen King's The Stand, the new Planet of the Apes movies, various zombie-apocalypse stories like The Walking Dead, and SM Stirling's Emberverse story, I'm curious about this question.  Obviously, everybody does what he needs to survive -- secure weapons, scavenge supplies, try to create shelter, and so forth, and eventually people start to reach out to each other and form communities again.  As this happens, it's obvious what roles that certain professions can play.  Doctors, dentists, veterinarians, and other medical professionals become the healers, engineers, machinists, and such can get the old technology working again.  All of these are very valuable skills, and will be in high demand.  But what about the lawyers, accountants and bankers -- the so-called "professionals" from the pre-apocalypse world?  At first blush, what would we do?  What unique abilities could we bring to this brave new world?

• Answer:

  Lawyers: The new world will need new laws to write. A new constitution. You'll basically have to start over. I think your writing skills and knowledge of the laws from the previous world will come in handy. Accountants: Well, there will certainly be a new economy in a few years. New money being printed or coined means new financial reports and new tax returns. Being an accountant myself, I'm sure I'll find someone who needs my skills, or I'll learn something new. Bankers: You guys are so screwed. You are the ones who caused damn the apocalypse in the first place! You'll be the first to get executed by whatever mad force ravages the world. I see no hope for you.
