Have you ever purchased a gps system from ebay?

I would like to create a startup. The idea is simple: mix Monster with GPS and eBay and you have the "GPS reversed auction system for jobs." Is this a good idea?

  • The startup will be a light site where you put in a field: "what, where, tools yes/no" and criteria who will win - the one with the lowest wage or the one with the highest ranking (like oDesk).

I think the idea is innovative in the space but I don't think it's a practical solution for the typical job market. More often then not, a business doesn't necessarily hire the most qualified individual or the employee that will cost the least. It's usually a combination of many different variables: expertise, desired salary, work in practice (rather then on paper), goals, how they fit into the business's environment etc - and that's why the current "apply and interview" model tends to work the best. And if I am a company only looking to hire the very best expert in that position, why would I want to constrain myself to a geographical area when looking for talent? On the other hand it does make some sense for part-time or labor type jobs with in a local area.  For example, if I wanted to hire someone to come paint my house, mow my lawn or photograph my wedding - assuming my only criteria are having it cheap or having it well-done.
