What are some of the fields in Computer Science?

What are the prospects after getting a master's degree in computer science with an electronics undergraduate degree in the fields of artificial intelligence/machine learning?

  • I have a B.Tech in Electronics Engineering from a local college. After that I started working in a mobile app development company. As of now I have around 20 months of experience in applied image processing and computer vision. I have grown quite an interest in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Image/Video analysis etc. My programming concepts and skills have also greatly improved.  In the coming 6-7 years of my career I want to work in these fields of my interest in perhaps bigger companies. Now my question is would a masters in CS help me to reach my career goals? I am looking at colleges like IIIT / NIT for MTech in CSE with appropriate specializations. Would a MS from US/Canada (SUNY Buffalo, TexasTech, GeorgeMason - similar ranked) be perhaps a better option ?(Considering overhead costs) Note :- I explicitly mentioned university names because I saw in Quora most people generally assume M.Tech to be from IIT and MS from MIT / Stanford which given my profile is not very likely.

  • Answer:

Do the masters for the sake of your interest and not because of 'prospects'. No one can predict career prospects. And in the long run, economic costs of getting more education will not matter - India or US or Canada. Think long term. And go for it.
