What is Michigan State University's reputation for a M.S. in C.S. with a specialization in Machine Learning?

    As a Professor in the CS department at MSU, my advice might be a bit biased, but we do have a number of fantastic researchers in Machine Learning and have just hired two more starting this Fall. Are you considering doing a masters degree with research (which I would recommend if you want to get in depth into machine learning), or did you want to focus on coursework?  Also, what is your overall goal for getting an M.S.?  If it's a stepping stone to a Ph.D., you might consider going straight to the Ph.D., where there are many more funding options, so you would tend to get paid instead of paying for school.
