How To Check The Voter ID Status?

How do I verify if my name is there in the voter list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2014?

  • My parents said they have done my voter registration in Assam, my native place, but the authorities do not issue voter ID cards there as yet. This has not yet started there, unlike many other states. How do I verify if my name is indeed there? Can I check online? I tried searching in http://eci.nic.in/ but could not find. Does the website of Election Commission of India have an online search available or not? Note - I do not stay in Assam. So, if I cannot verify my name beforehand, I would like to register my name in Pune, Maharashtra, where I stay. Somebody anwered to my question - go there to vote on the election day and you will anyway come to know if your name is there or not. Come on, is that the way they do it? By the way, how much time will it take to freshly enter name into voter list? Is there enough time remaining still? I would really like to vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Election. This will be my first time!

  • Answer:

http://ceoassam.nic.in/electoralroll.html Try searching for your name there. The roll is divided up by regions, and further divided by what appears to be voting centres.. You'll have to make a bit of an effort though, since it's not searchable.

Thanks for the A2A. Firstly, congratulations for recognizing the importance of excercising our right to vote, and also realising the importance of ensuring that a name is indeed present in the electoral rolls. Any registered voter can check if his/her name is present in the electoral rolls online, usually in the website of the relevant State Chief Electoral Officer(CEO), both in a searchable format and polling booth list wise. In case of Assam, the CEO's website is at http://ceoassam.nic.in/index.html and one can search at this link: http://election.assam.nic.in/srch.aspx Also, if your name is present and if you don't have an Electoral Photo ID Card(EPIC), do not worry as you can produce any of the valid photo identity card issued by a valid authority as listed by the Election Commission of India(for e.g. a valid Student ID, driving license etc.) and you will be allowed to vote. Nevertheless, getting an EPIC is always better. As per the law, one can register his/her name in the electoral rolls upto the last date of filing of nominations by candidates that has been notified by the Election Commission for any general election or bye-election to an Assembly or Parliament. To enable the Electoral Registration Officer to take action on your application, you must apply at least ten days before the last date of making nominations. So, there is still more than sufficient time if you would like to register at your present place of stay. Also, if you are indeed freshly registering, make sure that you delete your name from the electoral rolls of the previously registered place by submitting Form 7 from the ECI website, as a person cannot be enrolled as a voter at more than one place in view of the provisions contained in Sections 17 and 18 of Representation of People Act, 1950. Hope this helps. Do let me know if you face any problems. Exercise your right judiciously. Happy Voting!

You can download the voter list of your region from the website of ECI. Go to the following link: http://eci.nic.in/eci_main1/Linkto_erollpdf.aspx Select your state. A new page will open. Enter other details like: your district, your AC, and your nearest polling booth. A pdf will be downloaded. You can search your name in that pdf.
