VCR won't play tape.

What's a good way for me to play a VHS tape if I don't own a VCR?

  • I have a VHS-C tape -- Panasonic/SHG and I need to play it urgently. But I do not have any camcorder or player that plays VHS tapes. The only option I have come up with so far is to take it to this place where they transfer it to a DVD but that will take 3 to 4 weeks, which is too long. Another option I have is to buy a used VHS camcorder off of Craigslist, but I'm not going to buy a used camcorder just to play ONE tape. I also thought of going to electronic stores to play, but they don't sell camcorders that old any more, because manufacturers stopped making them.

  • Answer:

They make an adapter that will make VHS-C tapes playable in a regular VCR.  Or they did.... it looks like a VHS tape, and you insert the VHS-C.  If you can find one, use that to play the tape on a regular VCR.  You can buy a VCR at Goodwill for next to nothing.  Another thought is to put an ad on Craigslist and offer someone 5 bucks to use their player.  I realize this answer probably doesn't meet your urgent need, based on the date of your post.
