What can Node.js do that ASP.NET cannot?

Is it possible to use the Jade template engine without NodeJS, or is there an alternative which can be used without NodeJS?

I found a program for windows called Prepros. It has the dependencies built in and supports a lot of other languages like Less SASS coffescript etc.

Yes, the jade npm package can compile templates with the CLI application in fact. In the https://www.npmjs.com/package/jade, it mentions that you can compile a client template with: $ jade --client --no-debug template.jade. Of course, you'll still need node installed on the server, but that's just to run the jade package.

Sure. We use Jade as replacement for HTML in all our projects. You can compile it using Jade CLI app or with help of various task runners like Grunt, Gulp, Broccoli, Webpack for Jade processing. Jade can be transpiled to static HTML, PHP...only limits is your imagination :) If you are not fan of CLI tools, or just don't have enough skills yet, there are various apps for both Windows and OS X with nice GUI that does the job out of the box. I'd suggest CodeKit for OS X or Prepros for Windows.
