How bad is the monsoon season in India?

    Depends completely on where you are, Some places in India receive rains everyday for almost 3 months while others for less than half that period. For example: In Mumbai, every monsoon, there is a 3-4 day period in which it doesn't stop raining for even a minute. The drainage of the city cannot handle this much rain and it generally leads to mild flooding which disrupts road and rail traffic. All public transportation is delayed and travelling is hell. There are large puddles of rain water all over the city. Mumbai is one of the worse cases though. In most other cities (bangalore, delhi, hyderabad, pune etc.), your experience should be a decently pleasant one.

Most places in north India with the exception of Rajasthan, receive very heavy rain and the first thing that can be thrown out of gear is traffic.

I agree with the previous comment - really depends on the city. It is pretty brutal in places like Mumbai or cities in Kerala but not much of an impact in Chennai for example.
