What are some good examples of athletes in ball sports who had bad eyesight while they were playing?
-
I imagine there must be some athletes who had prescription glasses (or contact lenses) and also played sports that benefit from better eyesight. However, I can imagine that some athletes were able to wear glasses/lenses and then further compensate for their less than average eyesight with other talents, such as ball handling, better than average proprioception or an otherwise above average sense of the space around them. (Eyesight matters very little in sports like swimming or wrestling, for example, which is why athletes with bad eyesight in those sports are not particularly interesting.)

Answer:
http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/player/32222.html, the Nawab of Pataudi (1941-2011) was blind in one eye. He went on to represent India in cricket and became the youngest captain ever of the Indian Cricket Team in 1962. At the age of 16 he lost his right eye in an accident but became captain 5 years later at the age of 21 to hold the world record of youngest Test Cricket captain ever. A record he held for more than 40 years until broken by Tatenda Taibu of Zimbabwe. Of the 46 tests that he played, he captained India in 40 of them and won 9. India achieved its first overseas victory against New Zealand under his leadership. He stands along with Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly as one of the greatest captains India has had. His wife is a famous actor of yesteryears, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharmila_Tagore, while both his son (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saif_ali_khan) and daughter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soha_Ali_Khan) are prominent actors of Bollywood. The test series between India & England is named after his father, http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/player/32224.html who is the only cricketer to have represented both India and England in Test Cricket. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi died in 2011 of respiratory problems. Anmol Biswas
Mario Balotelli (Italian footballer). He had big problems wearing contact lenses as he was short-sighted. Because they became too irritating and the risk of losing them in the game was too high, he had his eyesight corrected with the LASIK-operation.
