What are the effects on health of being exposed to independence day fireworks?

I imagine if you're too close to the explosions your ears could be effected, just make sure you stay far enough away :)

It depends on whether or not you are talking about consumer fireworks or professional fireworks shows.   Professional shows are very safe. The biggest danger is from the noise. Hearing protection is a good idea, especially for children.   Consumer fireworks are somewhat dangerous. In 2011 in the United States,  fireworks caused around 17,000 reported fires, including over 1000 total structure fires, and around 400 vehicle fires. There were more than 15,000 grass and other outdoor fires. These fires resulted in at least eight reported deaths, 40  injuries and $32 million in property damage.   In 2012, hospital emergency rooms in the United States treated more than 8000 people for fireworks related injuries. Most of these injuries were to the extremities, especially the hands and fingers. Most of the injuries were in people between 15-24, the second highest category was children under 10. In a typical year, far more U.S. fires are reported on July 4th than on any other day. Fireworks are estimated to account for two out of five of those fires.
