If a recent graduate of a Bachelor's degree in industrial psychology wants to obtain a second more business-orientated degree to enhance their employability, is it wise to chose for something like banking and finance if she doesn't want to work in a bank? Will employers critically question the title
-
Due to a prior minor in Statistics the Bachelor in Finance and Banking is doable within one year only. But she kind of knows, she never wanted to work in a bank, let alone in Finance. She contemplates a Master in Applied Economics/Data Analysis afterworks and a Finance undergrad would easily translate into this and time is money, after all, no? Bachelor of Management would take too long, another 3 years. Does the title of the Bachelor really matter to employers that much? will employers critically question her why she studied for a field if she doesn't want to work in that field? Should she argue with the skills obtained (data analysis, economic understanding) why she opted for Finance instead of Management?

Answer:
Oh, I don't know, How about -- Work Experience -- in the industry that you do want to work. Might be able to get that in less than 3 years. It might also be a foot in the door of at least one business when it comes time to get that great job. And that whole "time is money" thing factors in too. "As for degrees, More is better". What? I see them at garage sales occasionally, usually doesn't adversely affect the value of the frame it is in. But, "I've never seen one go for more than 5 bucks. Do Students really imagine that there is runway and auctioneer off the end of the stage when they get their diploma; and people are pushing and shoving to get a good position to bid? That the Auctioneer will be saying, "and up next is a fine example of an Industrial Psychology Major, whatamybid?" Common folks, she's worth more than that, In case you didn't see it this specimen has an extra degree hanging off her butt in Finance. You could part this puppy out and recapture your costs!" But hey, I may be completely wrong. I'm just a business owner.
