Is there a service (with browser extension) doing something like Kindle "social highlights" but for web pages?
-
Basic requirements: Ability to easily highlight portions of web pages. Optionally tag these highlights Aggregate these highlights. Preferably in a smart way so it can somehow recognize overlapping but not 100% equal highlights. (Example: someone highlights one sentence. Someone else highlights this sentence too, but includes the following sentence as well.) Perhaps a toggable overlay (i.e. a color-coded heatmap) of highlights from users of the service for the current page. Or alternatively: Is there a "Delicious" of social highlighting? Preferably, I'd like something that's used by developers to store snippets of technical documentation they want to save for reference (and do not mind sharing).

What an awesome question! http://Markerly.com is a very fun bookmarklet that allows you to socially highlight, bookmark, and share articles to all your favorite social networks. All of your highlights are saved to books (like a Pinterest board) for easy future referencing, and for others to discover all the neat articles you share on a daily basis. Great way to easily bookmark, and a fun way to add a personal element to the articles you share online. All highlights can be auto-shared to FB or Twitter, and tagging is included with all of these (however, optional). If a sentence is already highlighted, you simply "remark" the sentence to your social networks or save the remark to your books.

I do this kind of things by Chrome Extensions named "Post to Tumblr", which makes us add scrolled sentences to tumblr by right click for a couple of seconds, though I'm also looking for kindle type highlights tool.
