How to improve Business English Skills?

Should I improve my English language skills before working in Ireland?

  • I'm going to work for six months in Ireland in the IT field, and I'm wondering whether I should improve my english language skills before going there or improving them on site. I am currently able to communicate in English, I have a good grasp of technical english but I probably miss most of the words used daily because I live in a non-english speaking country. I definitely need to improve my language skills, but I don't know if the best thing to do is taking an intermediate course before going there or improving them on-site.

  • Answer:

The best thing you can do for yourself is to make sure that you *make* the time in your first few weeks in Ireland to connect with Irish people and learn how to talk to them. Go hang out in some pubs (Irish people love pubs) and tell them you're visiting and want to learn about them and their country. Many Irish people are very friendly and will happily regale you with all sorts of exaggerated tales about everything under the sun. When you know the words to the "Star of the County Down" you're ready.
