I wanted to become an IAS officer. However, as I understand the ground realities in India more and more, I have become disgruntled. Everything seems meaningless amidst the great loot done by corrupt people. What do I do?

I am currently working at a highly reputed software company and am being paid highly. Life seems smooth and easy for me right now. Leaving all this, by tremendous hard work and taking huge risk even if I become an IAS, it seems pointless. Will I be able to change anything?

I believe everyone has doubts before the journey begins towards new destination therefore I'll refrain from making harsh comments. This question has also been answered at other places, so do check those answers too. Also, I believe India needs best civil servants and maybe you are one of them. Public servants need to be very strong emotionally, mentally and physically. Work is demanding, work is multidimensional. One often faces moments of crisis when situation demands one not to choose between good or bad but between two good options or two equally worse options. If you want to bring change, you dont need to do different or unique things. You just need to do them differently. Every nation went through same set of problems and there were men who stood in the storms and guided the ship to safety. Even if you decide to continue with your present job, you are still contributing in India's development and changes are happening every day. Shed this attitude of nothing-can-change, nothing-will-change. Such cynicism is already is excess in Indian society and that makes things harder then they are. Choose wisely. No matter where you end up, believe that you can always strive and achieve change.
