How To Detect Who Is Online In Facebook?

Does Facebook photos detect bikinis?

  • Serious question! Facebook uses a face detection algorithm to help identify people. I've noticed that photos with attractive people tend to get selected for display on the newsfeed - especially if said attractive people are wearing swimwear. My friends and I joked about Facebook emailing you to say that you haven't uploaded enough beach photos lately. Funny right? Well, when an 80 photo vacation set goes up, it's always the sexy ones that seem to make it into my feed. Perhaps it's also possible that Facebook is just showing the images people have looked at the most?

  • Answer:

Data from an image itself is not used in the ranking that picks news feed images. Content with a lot of likes/comments, however, is more likely to be ranked highly. I think it's pretty safe to say that a photo featuring an attractive and scantily clad person is going to often get more comments than a homely person in a sweater, which would explain why you see more "sexy" photos in the feed.
