Is the future of the Communist Party of India finished in West Bengal with Mamata Banerjee's TMC winning the elections? Why did TMC win in West Bengal? Why are the mainstream political parties like Congress and BJP finding it difficult to rise to power in West Bengal?

  • I think the future of the Communist parties in West Bengal is not finished. It is obivious that they had a large set back in the last 4-5 years, but will not last for very long. Although they they play the politics of poor people of the country and there are a lot of poor people in the country especially due to goverment policies. Mamata and TMC was elected by people because they wanted a change, but the truth now is that the condition has got even worse. West Bengal has become the center of attack against women as is being reported on day to day basis. Mamata keeps on blaming that the oposition is creating such stories to humiliate her. Saradha chit-fund scam looted almost 500cr from the people. Some TMC MP's even got arrested, the CBI findings on NANDIGRAM RIOTs also was against TMCs interest. Mainstream parties like the BJP and Congress are facing difficulty to rise power in West Bengal is mostly due to the strong vote-base of LEFT as well as TMC. Even though left has failed in 2011 election they had bagged about 41% of polled votes. And the clear majority of 6% votes over that made the change there. Now in West Bengal, there is two prominent politics playing major role. One is the Left and the other is against Left. And people think that TMC can play the anti-Left role more than mainstream parties. And that is why all votes aginst left get consolidated to TMC.

    Thogh Mamata and her party are trying to finish the communists from West Bengal, more specifically CPI(M), She is adopting the same tactics of dalatantra which was the modus operandi of Marxists. That shows she has got nothing new to offer.

The future of Communist parties in India,more so in West Bengal,has not come to an end. It is only now the beginning of an era for them provided they work hard as their earlier generations. The reason for this is merely that the people of WB changed their rulers with some hopes that they would do better than the Communists which proved only to be a farce. When they realise that Communists are the best option to get atleast nutritional food for their children & decent employment for their youth without discrimination, they will need Communists. Afterall Communist Party is a party of all the working people and elections are a part of its struggle against the exploiters. However it should evolve once again in independent India with the same fervour and strength to fight against exploitation uncompromisingly! I'm sure the future of CP cannot be decided by an election alone.... which has been totally capitalised and become corrupt.....

The future of CPM in West-Bengal is bleak. The destruction that they caused to Bengal in the 34 years is enormous, and it's still fresh in the minds of the people. Moreover, they have failed to prove themselves as worthy opponents as well. 5 years down the line, the party may turn into a signboard(as is the case with INC in the state). It might be surprising ,but,the BJP might turn out to be the main opposition party, with the same supporters of CPM already joining BJP enmasse.
