Psychometric tests for employment have a very checkered history. To get a general idea of the problem, head to your nearest video store and rent a copy of the classic 1947 film "Miracle on 34th Street" That having been said, I agree with Mukul Garg that Myers-Briggs is an excellent (and widely used) tool for getting an appreciation of your own temperament which in turn can be useful for considering what sort of job might be a most comfortable fit for you. My own example is that the process of getting into and through medical school heavily favors introverts (book worms who love to spend hours and hours alone in a room memorizing things) while the actual job favors extroverts (meet a new person every 7 minutes all day, every day). Hmmm... One difficulty is that Myers-Briggs training is a licensed consulting service and the training may not be easily available to a single young person. Whoever, you can get almost the same information in a book / self-test format by buying a copy of "Please Understand Me" by Keirsey. Who also has a website these days: http://www.keirsey.com/pum_2.aspx Hope this helps, David Hetherington

You yourself are the best possible measuring instrument for this purpose. I think the JVIS is quite good. I took it a few years ago when I was studying to be a career developer. It said that I should be a minister of religion. This would not be a bad fit in many ways except that the religious organisation I am most comfortable with has no ministers. Therefore, my difficulty with this instrument is that it offers only one or two career options. How would I go about choosing something similar but truly suitable? The Myers-Briggs is extremely popular. However, it tends to boil down to about 16 types and there are tens of thousands of occupations. Moreover, it doesn't measure one's attitudes toward shift work or rain forests. In other words, it leaves a lot of latitudes for decision. Decades ago I did the Strong and the Kuder. They came very close but failed to account for my performance in certain university subjects. For young people, I really like Career Cruising (CC) because it is possible to vary one's responses once one has understood their significance in the context of the instrument better, to see what difference changes in responses make to the instrument's results. CC offers a list of possible occupations rather than just one or two. In fact, a huge problem with all psychometric tests of interest is that they fail to take aptitude, personal confidence, not to mention market conditions into account. Much of your success and satisfaction in life will, I'm afraid, have to do with things over which you have no control whatever. Returning to what I wrote first, start listing the experiences you enjoy, what you enjoyed about them and who was present. What topics and activities do you find interesting? By all means take the JVIS for instance (about $20) but do _not_ accept its results as revealed truth. Use you accumulated information about what you like doing to evaluate the suggested occupations. Consult http://www.onetonline.org/ for information about occupations that you see mentioned and use your own internal evaluation engine.

Hi There,Interesting question. Please note that every individual has a unique trait, which we generally call the personalityYes. I do agree that tests gives you an idea about your likes and dislikes as well as helps you choose a career or rather a stream based on your Aptitude. As far as the Psychometric assessment for career choice is concerned, a counselor would check for the board of the child and then decide on the test the child needs to be given. But the test needs to focus majorly on few aspects like: Logic Numerical Imagination Vocabulary Scientific Whichever test covers this aspect, one can give the test accordingly. As far as Personality test is concerned, test varies on the basis of why we use it. What I mean is that, personality tests for career selection is different from Personality test used for Job selection.I strongly recommend that before an individual is given a personality test, the client must meet the counselor and get a complete case history taken. As far as online tests are concerned, only genuine links or organizations should be approached, which follow the above guidelines mentioned.I also recommend: https://www.careerguide.com/psychometric-career-assessmentHope this helps.Wish you good luckâ¦
