Is it a good idea to write about the US education system in my college admission essay?

Answer:
Without a few details as to what you are writing about it is a bit hard to tell (you have full right to ensure the privacy of your essay). I would however say that you are better off avoiding writing essays on controversial topics like the education system. As strongly as you feel that you resonate with the issue, you don't want to alienate your reader just because you hold a different opinion to them, especially when that person can decide your future! Also I am not certain if you it can give any insights about YOU, the main purpose of a college essay. That said, if you still feel that you can approach the topic from an angle that is unbiased, analytical and provides clear insight into YOUR way of thinking/personality, feel free to go ahead and don't let my answer dissuade you. After all it is your essay and you have every right to craft it as you please. Good Luck!

In the U.S., college essays are personal essays, not position papers. Have you examined college essay prompts? They will be asking about you, your personal background, influences, motivations, personal qualities, character, talent, interests, successes, failures, hopes and dreams in some way. If you want, you can certainly take a position if you can make it fit the prompt, but that isn't particularly insightful about the holistic view of the person that you are presenting to the university and how that person will be contributing to the intellectual and extracurricular vibrancy they cultivate. I don't think it would be helpful for your application at all; for one reason you won't likely be addressing the prompt. Sample essay prompts: University of California, both required Describe the world you come from â for example, your family, community or school â and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations. If this sounds like you, then please share your story. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn? Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again? Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you? Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

When you have compiled all the pieces of your application and sent it to the college/university of your dreams, all of your hard work gets placed in a pile with hundreds of other applications.
