Is it a good idea to write about the US education system in my college admission essay?

Of course. You are in a free country. Besides, If you can catch attention of everyone with some real good points go ahead! I had done a similar activity (report writing) reviewing the courses offered in my college and criticising them.

In the U.S., college essays are personal essays, not position papers. Have you examined college essay prompts?
