Why does video broadcast over TV cost less than the video streaming over broadband Internet?
-
For eg, I pay about Rs 300 for my TV subscription per month, using which I can watch TV channels(video signal) as much as I want, whereas the cost of streaming data(video signal) over broadband internet is wayyy to much(Rs 500 for just 4GB per month(which in terms of video is nothing !)). In both cases I am watching video. Then why is there such a huge cost difference?

Answer:
Based on your comment in the question, what you refer to as 'streaming on TV' is actually 'broadcast TV'. Here the TV signals are being sent on the air and its the same for anyone and everyone who wishes to watch it. Streaming is generally a one to one connection where you watch what you want, when you want. A dedicated connection generally needs setting up for you to watch the content as per your convenience. This process is more costly as compared to broadcast case. An example would be that when you are in university/college you can listed to a lecture in the class, the same time everyone is listing to. Its costs you far less then if you go for a one-to-one tuition with the same lecturer.

Video streaming is a service provided by your ISP. If your ISP is charging you heavily, you pay heavily. In hyderabad, an unlimited 2 Mbps line costs about 1000 which makes streaming much more affordable. But the higher price of TV (cable/satellite) as opposed to the internet could be better understood with this analogy: News papers have all sorts of articles and are mass produced. They cost very less. But if you wish to subscribe to specific magazines, it costs more. The data serviceĀ which provides you custom access to your content can demand higher prices than the mass produced common for all stuff like TVs. But some cities around the world may have extremely competitive internet prices that negate your premise.

In TV the video streaming is done from the sender side to the sattelite and directly recived to the local operators from there they distribute to the end users, but for broadband or generally for internet connections we have something know as server which handles the data and signals. I guess this might be the reason.
