  From the tourism board standpoint, check out Tourism Queenslands Best Job in the World campaign. It comes to mind first.  The idea was a promotion around an island caretaker job. During a down economy it was very timely.   Because Queensland, Australia, and Mexico have huge budgets they were able to gain a lot of national media attention and do some interesting things. I would look for their work. Middle Eastern countries and cities are now also moving into the market with big bucks. So keep an eye out there, particularly for Adu Dhabi and Dubai. Also, for many tourism boards today, you want to look toward social media, which is where they are investing their dollars.  Microsites, posters, and billboards are still in the tool kit but the focus on innovation is the social media arena now.  Airlines tend to be slow to adapt but are getting smarter.  Virgin is always on the forefront.  KLM also recently did a very a cool Tile A Plane campaign where you used facebook to make a delft tile of your face and they chose the best ones and decorated the exterior of a plane with it.
