Answer:
Thanks for A2A. I am not sure about DevFactory. But I can talk a little about Flipkart and Amazon IDC. As for FlipKart , I got an offer from them a few months back but had to turn down for personal reasons. Pros:- 1. Awesome pay. They gave a handsome hike over my Amazon pay. 2. Good work culture. A few of my friends work there and from my research, I heard very positive feedback about the work culture. 3.Challenging work. Their entire development team is here and so all core work is done here unlike the IDCs of MNC companies where mostly dull projects are outsourced ( from my Microsoft and Amazon Experience). 4.Bangalore. A great place for a fresher in all aspects , if you know what I mean. Cons:- 1. Amazon India. With Amazon India launch , there will be fierce competition. Though Indian Market is big enough to accomodate both , the risk is still there. Amazon IDC - I worked at their Hyderabad Dev Centre. Pros:- 1. Decent work. Exposure to scalable infrastructure and real time systems. 2. U.S shifting . If you have plans to move to U.S a few years later , it is easier at Amazon IDC. 3.Stability. Amazon has deep pockets. You can consider yourself settled for life. 4.Brand. Amazon has a good brandname. Even if you want to switch later , you can have lot of options. Cons 1.Work Culture. The company is very much frugal. I mean really really frugal. No goodies. No play at work. No (negligible) team outings. 2. Hectic work. Most teams work 12 hour days. 3.On call. Prepare to get woken up at ungodly hours. Again depends on the team. But 70% teams are like this. 4.Operations overhead. Developers have to spend significant time supporting and testing as well. The last 3 are the reasons why I left Amazon. I value my personal time very much but again that's just my preference.

Depends on what you want to do. One quick tip - If you want to do a startup in few years, DevFactory is your best bet. It's aiming to provide a Trilogy like environment (all of DevFactory who'll be working in india is ex-Trilogy), and Trilogy is extremely well known for people leaving firms to do a startup! Source: http://founderdating.com/entrepreneurial-company-alumni/ (#2 BazaarVoice has again majority of founding team from Trilogy) Now the long answer. First the fundamental difference between these: Flipkart and Amazon are B2C companies, which mean the work you're doing will directly impact people who you're in touch with in your daily lives. The space e-commers has cut throat margins, high running costs, and the idea is to ammortize the costs by economies of scale. Of course, the differences are Amazon has deep pockets, whereas Flipkart has a huge lead in India, and is absolutely 'loved' by the customers. Trilogy on the other hand is a B2B company, that only works in the area of enterprise software, that tries to solve problems with high business value. Quality of work is subjective, but to lay down cards for a fresher, I would divide it into (some points of of Amazon / Flipkart are covered by Arjun, so I'll try not repeat them): Impact: In Amazon, It's hard to have a huge impact as a fresher, because of the number of people in general, and the number brilliant people around, and the scope of work that each individual does is very reduced. Flipkart would give you more chances as a fresher to make a big impact - and encourages it too, but you'll have to be extra special for it, simply because it has an army of fairly talented people already, and is hiring a LOT. This is where DevFactory would scores high. model is built around extremely small sized team handling a high revenue product, and which means everyone in the team has to take a huge responsibility. Learning: Amazon is a Large company, it's very likely you'll get an exposure of solid systems if you're self driven and hunt and read through the code - for eg most services that run the amazon cloud. You would get to hear and see Gurus of technology on internal email threads possibly. Flipkart's existing systems are obviously not as droolworthy as amazon's, but there are very good grade architects, and you can get mentorship if you land in the right team - and indirect mentorship anyways(email threads etc). it has a lot of tech enthusiasts, which is great. Good chance you'll probably get to work on bleeding edge technology, provided you convince the seniors in your team, that it's right. DevFactory has extremely deep tech people too, but simply because of the number of Trilogy companies it has to cater to, they get fragmented, and it's not guaranteed you get direct guidance of the Gurus in technology. But you'll have close guidance of a single senior tech person for sure, as the products are usually complex, and critical. The dimension of learning would go beyond much beyond just technology even for a fresher, though - you'll realize the value and understand the business for which you are working much more. The technologies you'll learn will be very much based on the product you'll work, but you'll be expected to learn a lot on your own, and be an expert in both the business and technology domain. Environment: The earlier points give a hint, but to sum it up, but the environment of Amazon is of a large company, that of Flipkart is on it's transition to be a large company, and that of Devfactory is very much like a startup (eg: you'll mostly have sudo access on your production machines). Elaborating on those differences will make for another essay, so please talk to people who've got some workex in respective environments and see what you're made for! The last, Culture: Arjun's answer already covers fair bits of the first 2. Amazon is not at all famous for it's work culture, in india for sure. Flipkart has very good people, good culture - though it's lost a bit of what it was, primarily due to the pace with which it's growing - there are passionate people at the top for whom culture means a lot. working is fun in majority of the teams. Devfactory is still to setup an office in India. It should be fun, though, with a small bunch of extremely smart and energetic folks! Disclosure: I used to work at Flipkart, and am currently working at DevFactory.
