What is the best business model/company for a salesperson to start?

  • Imagine a scenario where there is a small team of highly capable of salespeople, but no product person. What would be a good business to start?  I'm thinking along the lines of white labeling a product or service, but I'm not sure what kinds of products you could do that with. Assume there is enough money to support ourselves, but not enough to fund a full development cycle of any software or hardware. The ideas so far: Payments Insurance

I mulled this over for a long time as one of the things I did best as an entrepreneur was sales. It probably depends on the capital you have available if you have the time and money to invest in a great product then you focus your energies there. If like i was you dont quite have the capital you need (poor:-)) then helping other companies with sales functions can be very rewarding financially and professionally. In Ireland where I am from there is a lot of funding for r and d and start ups in general but very little sales training or expertise in the state bodies offering support. So I offered my services to startups. Helping them to figure out how to build sales process and how to get the message about their products out there. Many entrepreneurs are engineers or scientists with great products but no real sales expertise. I have been able to help several to get their products to market in some cases on tiny budgets. This model has the other advantage of always working with smart individuals who will challenge you every day and allows you to work in several businesses at once so it never gets dull! But to make a long story short get involved with some startups find one with a great product and offer your support as a team or agency!

The list is infinite. Products can be sourced all around the world. I know people who make superb money sourcing product & getting it distributed by retailers - some building very large businesses. Eventually, as they've grown bigger, they've hired product people as a service to their clients. But many (especially international) manufacturers need help linking into local distribution like retail stores. This covers all types of products - tools, cooking related, bicycles and recreation, etc...
