How to make a professional CV?

How do I make the best use of my drop year after completing a B.Tech from an IIT, when I wish to pursue MS next year and make it look good on my CV?

  • What are the prospects to get an internship (India or abroad) meanwhile? I'm a fresh passout from an IIT having completed my B.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. I took some time off to decide patiently my future course of life since I wasn't very sure. Now that I've found my interests in materials sciences, I wish to apply for MS next year. However, I have had no projects or distinction in the field yet, thus I wish to use this time to gain some experience as well as strengthen my CV to ensure admission to an MS programme. How can I get a good internship opportunity in this field(Materials sciences, Nanotechnology)?

  • Answer:

The best way is to follow these steps: Find the best professor in IITs specialized in material science. Go and find details about him, about his research, his research papers, books written by him. Just go and meet him. Do not be shy just drop in his office. Tell him you want to explore the field of material science. Tell him how you see him as a role model, How you appreciate his research, how his book helped you to love the subject, then discuss his research papers. Request him to let you work with him on a project to gain inside of the subject. IIT professor can have TA so he may pay you. (One of friend was working as a TA while he was preparing for IAS). Work with him and in parallel prepare for GRE. With a IIT professor to back you will have something very attractive to write in your CV plus you will got a very good letter of recommendation.
