What is the best vacation spot (international included) for a 17-24 month old?

  • Right now my son is almost 17 months old and we're wanting to plan a vacation, an "away away" vacation, potentially to international destinations. We reside in Los Angeles.

    We recently spent ten days (far too little) in New Zealand and found it absolutely amazing. Perhaps it was the time of year (the Spring/Summer transition down there) but the weather, the sights, the people, everything was just beautiful, friendly and relaxing. OK, except for some of the drivers who traveled the roads a bit too fast for our tastes although perhaps we were still adjusting to being on the other side of the road, dealing with kilometers, etc.

We spent 2 weeks in Sydney, Australia, with our 18 month old. Amazing. Great facilities, safe city, boat rides, tram rides, koalas, kangaroos, and shopping centres easy to find for any emergency everywhere. Recommend booking a serviced apartment and do you own cooking at home, plus some eat outs.

If you reside in LA, I'm not going to say Disneyland, but we just took our 2 year old to Legoland and Disneyland during the Xmas break and it was a great vacation. We also took him to Washington DC in one trip and to New York City in another one. Believe it or not both have been great because we get to walk a lot and go to museums and he's loved that. About international destinations some of my friends have ventured with toddlers all the way to Europe, we've decided to wait until he understands a bit more. We are planning a trip to Hawaii with him this summer, he'll be 30 months by then though, some friends have told me they had great trips there with their little ones.
