Why do workers in large retail chains work so hard for so little money?
-
I recently took a part-time job with a major discount retailer to earn money for "extras" for our family. Turns out, I have never worked so hard for so little money in my life. I will never get irritated by slow cashiers again. How do these stores get away with impossibly high standards, very little training and wages barely above the minimum?
-
Answer:
Supply and demand. The availability of workers who are qualified to fill those jobs exceeds the supply of said jobs. This is reflected in their hourly wages.
