A lady I know pretty well, and care about a lot, lost a close relative recently and I want to express my condolences to her. Would a Facebook message be inappropriate or is a letter preferable?
-
We are not actually friends on FB but get along well in the real world. We meet face to face only rarely and I don't want to wait on a chance encounter to let her know I'm there for her. I guess a letter / card is most appropriate, FB would be quicker but impersonal.

Answer:
A facebook message would be highly inappropriate. In order: 1. Attend the funerary ritual. 2. Send flowers, food, or whatever else is traditional in the culture. 3. Hand written letter. 4. Sympathy card. 5. Personal e-mail.
