Which universities in the world are particularly active in Computational and Systems Biology?

    Big data = Dr. Atul Butte I saw him speak at a Cytoscape workshop, good stuff. Systems biology = MIT Slightly more prestigious for biomedical would be Harvard UC San Fran is great U of Mich has some great people in computational modeling and mathematical biology. Theoretical biology is mostly being done in Germany and its pretty sweet I think.

Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh have teamed up to offer a good PhD program in this area.  CMU Lane Center for Comp Bio specializes in Machine Learning and Algorithms (as you might expect!).  Pitt gets lots of funding from the NIH in this area.  In total, the program might be a bit smaller than than the combination in Cambridge (MIT/Harvard/Broad) but still quite active. UCSD (San Diego) is a good program, too - a quite large.
