How do I convert an ePub to PDF while maintaining embedded hyperlinks?
-
I have a scholarly ePub which has hyperlinks to references in the book. You click on the citation and you're taken to the appropriate reference. The table of contents is likewise hyperlinked. I'm having trouble converting the ePub to PDF in a way that maintains the the hyperlinks. Things I've tried: ⢠Calibre (Mac): Basic default settings. Produced a PDF made up of graphical pages. File was over 248 MB in size as a result. Couldn't search text (because there was no text, because it was all graphics). No hyperlinks. ⢠Stanza (Mac): Produced a text-based PDF with hyperlinked table of contents. Internal formatting lost and internal subscripted hyperlink references rendered as normal text, unlinked. ⢠Zamzar (web-based): Text-based PDF but no hyperlinks. Looked a lot like epub2pdf output. ⢠epub2pdf (Linux/Mac): Text-based PDF with excellent nested hyperlinked table of contents, but original internal hyperlinks lost. Subscripted hyperlinks rendered as normal text, unlinked. Good conversion of standard bold/italics, images, etc though. Added March 22/2011 ePub to Word (via Stanza): From Twitter, @dajbelshaw suggested converting to Word first and then to PDF. Stanza will export to Word, but hyperlinks were not preserved. In fact, subscripted reference hyperlinks became inline numbers. Didn't bother sending to PDF at that point. ePub to RTF (via Calibre): I then tried exporting to RTF. The RTF looked good. Subscript was preserved and the links were underlined but not clickable. Didn't bother sending to PDF at that point.
