If the TV series overtakes the books, will you wait to watch the TV series until the book is out and you've read it?
-
Going by estimates, the next book will be out somewhere towards the end of 2015. By this time, the fifth season which will most likely cover the majority of the events of ADWD will be out and work for the sixth season would already have started. It is highly likely that the if the TV series has no breaks in between, it will be over before the seventh book is out. The creators of the show have said that after their meeting with GRRM, they know the story arc of the major characters very broadly. So, although, the final ending will be the same but the story arc may deviate majorly from the books if the TV series comes before the books. The TV series is already taking a somewhat different arc and is giving out potential spoilers for the book readers (The Night's King). In such a scenario where the events in GOT (TV show) overtakes those in ASOIAF, would you continue watching the TV series?

Answer:
I won't wait, no. I'll watch the episodes as they come out, and read the books as they are published. By now they are different enough that the show is more or less "based on" the books rather than a direct adaptation. It would be impossible to stay away from spoilers anyway.

I've stopped reading the books after I couldn't get through A Feast For Crows. So I wouldn't care if the series would overtake the books at some point. As long as GRRM stays involved and continues to give his direction as to where the story needs to go.

The TV series cant overtake the books genius! They would delay the later seasons for after when the books come out What are you suggesting? That GRRM will base the books on the series?

If the TV series overtakes the books, then the books will be based on the TV series. Books are more detailed than the TV series, if not it would be a synopsis of the episodes rather than a book, which means that details have to be added. If the details are different from the episode then viewers who have watched the episode will get confused because they wouldn't be able to relate to the visual. This leaves bad comments. So the book would have to be exactly the same as the episodes for the book to have good reviews. The fact that the book is derived from the episode makes the episode the superior. First come first serve it is. So I wouldn't wait for the book. I wouldn't even read it in such a scenario.
