How do I delete a LinkedIn profile?

In linkedIN anonymous profile views, there is a difference in anonymous profile displays. One says "Someone on linkedIN" and the other one says "This linkedIN member has chosen to be anonymous". Does someone know what the difference is?

  • My theory is that the difference in anonymous display on linkedIN is that when a anonymous viewer is part of your linkedIN network, then the system will display it as an anonymous linkedIN member, if the viewer is outside of your Network then it will be displayed as "Someone on linkedIN". Does this sound as a plausible theory that could be true? On the other hand,if I do not have a my own linkedin profile & google names to view linkedin, will It display my name? What if I have downloaded the linkedin app on ipad but have no account. Will linkedin still display I was there?

  • Answer:

I believe it's the difference between visitors to your profile who aren't logged into linkedin (eg people coming via google and viewing your public profile) and logged-in members with privacy settings as you suggest. Or it's an A/B test - you never know ;)

This is actually in control of a LinkedIn user. You can choose whether you want to be completely anonymous when you visit a person's LinkedIn profile or have some information displayed about you. When you visit a LinkedIn profile which is out of your network, the person will see 'Someone at LinkedIn Viewed your Profile' without any information like your job title/function.

It’s something unusual. It’s not the typical anonymous mode. (See pic) If you set your profile to the highest level of anonymity on LinkedIn, it will look like the picture on the right that says “These people viewed your profile in private mode.” However, the one on the left, just says “Someone on LinkedIn”. It doesn’t even say “viewed your profile”. Just “someone on LinkedIn. It’s kinda’ creepy. I think it’s some kind-of super-secret anonymous setting. It could be a/b testing on behalf of LinkedIn. Whatever it is, t’s not available to free users. I just tested it.
