How do I present and attribute the work in my design portfolio that I designed, but had other people change, revise, or add to? How do I talk about that work during a job interview?

I've designed tons and tons of things in my first 2 years out of college but 99% of it was change by more than one artist in my department. Example, I design a CD package, down the road my creative director moves a few things around to make it better or adds something. How do I present that and talk about it in my next interview. Do I have a right to display. Or if I worked on it no matter how much its mine or I have the right.

Answer:
This is a tough one. Your goal is to describe the role you played in the creation of that product. For your CD cover example, you could say something like "created original concept for <product x>" and show preliminary images of the designs you created. If those don't exist or you're not comfortable showing them, I'm of the opinion that you could add the final design to your portfolio BUT, as stated earlier, you must be truthful about your role. Adding something like "final design shown" to the quote mentioned above should make it clear to folks that you had a hand in the design but not 100%. The quotes I use above are short but you can always lengthen them a bit to describe the full nature of your involvement in a project. Very few of us work alone. Hiring managers know this. Be honest and your contributions will be clear.

As Jeff said be specific about your role. Put your role such as designer or lead designer then a description of what you did ie: all visual design and some interaction design on the gallery section. Put the status such as concept design or live. Be clear and concise about your part in the project.
