What is Digital Design?

Design: What would you put in a curriculum for continuing education for professional digital designers?

  • I'm trying to put together an informal set of classes for me and my co-workers to improve our skills in design and design thinking. What topics should we try to cover?

  • Answer:

Nonlinear design structures? Fluid Systems Topology, or the integration of migrating systems? Architectural reorganization of website UI/design as language, one PKD would say "...we've long forgotten" as 'Zones of Influence' (cultural/devo/value, perception, experience, memetic transference) or as TRUE event spaces, rather than simply exceeding graphic design beyond the pedestrian to deploy information: "We hypostatize information into objects. Rearrangement of objects is change in the content of the information; the message has changed. This is a language which we have lost the ability to read. We ourselves are a part of this language; changes in us are changes in the content of the information. We ourselves are information-rich; information enters us, is processed and is then projected outward once more, now in an altered form. We are not aware that we are doing this, that in fact this is all we are doing." -PKD Event Spaces: (as described by Bernard Tschumi Manhattan Projects et al) What can the GUI of the Internet's nodal universe teach us directly about existing, or emergent patterns of cultural intelligence or behavior, self within the greater self - advanced knowledge of multiplicity? Simply through interaction at a primary or base model of engagement beyond; noun-verb relationships. Aberrant patterns of emergence as mutational causeways to a greater design theory; transposing ambiguous or fluid interaction btwn user and "Metcalfe's Tron 2*" in order to spark liminal truth. "Truth" in the sense Tarkovsky defines truth within the direct clarity AND ambiguity of images within his films. "Abstractions are not always ambiguous, but ambiguity is always anything but abstraction." *Metcalfe's Law is still becoming, so much so it now resembles less its initial intent as Tron 2 brought us Isomorphic Algorithms (ISO's) Isomorphism is a similarity of form or structure between organisms, generally between organisms with independent ancestries, e.g. after convergent evolution. Two organisms exhibiting isomorphism are referred to as isomorphs: The separate evolution of camera eyes in vertebrates and cephalopods (and insects, and many more, in as many as fifty separate instances), is an example of isomorphism. So is the evolution of wings in insects, pterosaurs, birds, and bats. Algorithm "Informally speaking ... is a collection of simple instructions for carrying out some task. Commonplace in everyday life, algorithms sometimes are called procedures or recipes." (2006 - Sipser) -Zube PS. Above all: Create Leaders. Of thought, design, innovation. Real leaders never create followers; but instead: more leaders. Euclid would agree, I believe:
