Can DUI Supervision affect my offer letter from Accenture?
-
I am getting ready to accept an offer from accenture. My job profile involve travelling too. Can Accenture refuse me an offer based on my DUI supervision. Please note I dont have a conviction its a simple supervision. Will they come to know about it when they do the background check ? I know I am posting this anonymously for privacy reasons specific to this post only. I know it was a serious mistake I had made and I take full responsibility for this action, just want to make sure it does not affect future employment. Has anyone received offers from Accenture or similar consulting firms with a DUI supervision ?

Answer:
If Accenture got to the point of making you an offer, they should have run the background check already. They probably can't deny you simply based on your DUI supervision, or conviction, if either of those prevented you from performing your job they could refuse your employment for that. http://www.avvo.com/legal-answers/how-will-a-dui-record-affect-my-chances-of-employm-289517.html

First, a DUI may or may not be a felony. In some states you have to get upwards towards 5 for it to be a felony and typically felonies are what job applications want to know about. If you have one or two, it could just be gross misdemeanors. My understanding is not to volunteer the information about the DUI supervision, and if it comes up - don't lie, just be honest and talk more about how you identify that it was a mistake and you fully understand correcting this behavior AAs are some of the most loyal employees because they understand how hard it can be to get hired. To add onto what Joyce mentioned about the state laws and refusing to hire someone... etc... Some states cannot run a background check until an offer is made. The intention is to get companies to start looking at the overall quality of the applicants and not discourage people from applying. Just accept that DUI supervision will show up on the background check (have you pulled one for yourself?). They may or may not look at it seriously. Some companies only care about theft or violent records. Pretty sure a company this size is not new to DUIs/AAs. Regardless, at some point you're going to land a job. Just keep trying and you'll get something.

In the United States, employment status is at-will, and certainly anything DUI-related is not a protected class (there are only a handful of enumerated reasons for which you cannot legally be fired, such as your race, age, gender, etc.). In fact, an offer letter isn't legally worth the paper it's written on and can be rescinded for no reason whatsoever.

Its a case by case basis I would say I have seen a number of posts where people have been recruited and some where they have not been. DUI is not a serious thing but again it depends on the company and its policies.
