How come Ethiopia is not part of the ICC?

What will be the effect on cricket if the changes revealed in the ICC draft document actually come into effect?

  • A "working group position paper" from the ICC's Finance & Commercial Affairs (F&CA) proposed a structural overhaul of world cricket, which would give decision-making power and a larger share of revenues to the BCCI, the ECB and Cricket Australia. The "position paper" also recommended changes in the ICC's revenue distribution models, administrative structures and the Future Tours Programme (FTP). The proposal created a stir in the cricket fraternity with arguments suggesting that the concentration of power in the hands of the three boards could impact the game significantly. These changes will not guarantee the fixed revenue anymore to any cricket board. Is it the start of the lucrative premier leagues thereby reducing international cricket? http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/content/story/710723.html http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/content/story/710707.html http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/content/story/710899.html

  • Answer:

This is very bad for cricket. It will become somewhat like football. More about clubs, than about nation. Most cricket fans are worried about it. I hope it gets rejected.

It will have a great impact upon the game itself and most of the impact is negative. When three of the boards will have a greater say in any of the decision of ICC obviously they will make decisions in their own favor. They will decide when they will play, where they will play and  which team they will play. The kind of power strategy these boards have shown unofficially till now, will then become official and every other board should have to play according to them. This will have severe impact upon the game. This also clearly shows that how money minded and power hungry these boards have become. BCCI for example  earns millions from various tournaments, IPL and various rights but still want to have more share in any of the tournament it organize. Its logic is that since its because of us that ICC is earning, we should be paid more. When we take it financially it seem logical. But when we have a look on Boards like West Indies and Zimbabwe who are so poor and whose earning depends upon the matches they play, it will be surely an unfair decision.
