How do you store a dictionary on Parse using swift?

What Kindle features do/don't work for side-loaded .mobi files and personal documents, compared to books bought from the Amazon Kindle Store?

  • I will be wanting to read quite a few public domain titles and side-loading .mobi files. I will be using it with "calibre", the ugly but functional swiss army knife to manage my ebooks. I will also want to send stuff directly to the Kindle via my @http://free.kindle.com email ID. Will I be able to get features like the inline dictionary? What works for books bought from the Kindle store that doesn't work for side-loaded .mobi files and emailed personal documents? PS: Before I get judged as being cheap or a pirate, please understand that where I live, I cannot have a credit card or get even the public domain books from Amazon for free. I will basically be using the Kindle sans the Amazon ecosystem.

  • Answer:

I have experience converting files including PDFs. I have also emailed them to my Kindle. Some feedback: -With the recent announcements (last week) I understand even personal documents will be backed up to the cloud service. Didn't used to be that way. -Highlighting works but you won't be able to see Popular Highlights -You can share passages from non-Kindle-store-bought books on Facebook and Twitter -Dictionary works fine! You should be in good shape. If you do end up getting non-public domain books I hope you find a way to help or contribute back to writers...financially or otherwise. Good luck.

About 90% of eBooks in my Kindle are DRM-free books obtained directly from publisher and not through Amazon. I deliver these books to Kindle either through @http://free.kindle.com email o or using "Send to Kindle" context menu option. So far I haven't found any feature which would not be working for my DRM-free ebooks. Inline dictionary definitely works fine. Also highlighting works fine.

The words that you look up on inline dictionary from a book bought on Kindle Store are automatically added to the Vocabulary Builder with the meaning and usage (The extract from the book itself is used).   https://www.amazon.in/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201733850 This doesn't work with DRM-free books.
