Is it free to post on eBay?

Is it legal to post a listing on eBay for information to drive traffic to another platform?

  • For example, can I advertise a $0.99 buy it now auction on eBay for information on where to buy a certain item?  I tried selling huge lots of items wholesale on eBay, but since I cannot tell where the buyer lives so I lost money on shipping.   I know I can ask the buyer to pay by location, but I think free shipping is what sells on eBay.  Collectively, the items are too heavy.  If I sell on amazon, I can offer free shipping.  It's hard to get my amazon listing to rank so I thought maybe I can charge a customer on eBay who is interested and direct them to my amazon listing once I receive their email.  Will ebay allow this?  I know you can sell information on eBay, but mostly I just see people selling ebooks.

  • Answer:

Absolutely not, and can get you banned from the platform.  eBay's trust and safety issues don't apply to transactions conducted off platform, and you're going to find lots of buyers who won't take the risk, anyway.
