Which Android application will allow one to block calls at night except from Contacts?
-
I'm looking for an Android app which will let you whitelist *all* your contacts. Unfortunately I cannot find any such app after extensive searching for terms such as 'whitelist' or 'contacts' or blocker' or 'silencer' or 'VIP', so I am curious if anyone is aware of any silencing or blocking apps with this feature please. Specifically: If your phone is set to silent/vibrate, the app will temporarily increase the volume for calls (permanently or for call duration) or SMSes/IMs (long enough to send a notification, then turn it back down) from whitelisted numbers. The minimal I am looking for would be: 1) Has an option to allow all people in Contacts list (e.g. Facebook contacts) to successfully call/IM you if you have phone set to silent/vibrate, or (less preferably) if you have enabled some sort of Privacy Mode 2) If the app has a Privacy Mode, it would need to be enabled via a widget, or by time/GPS The closest I have found is combining Ringer Whitelist with a time-based silencer. I just suggested an "all-contact-list-except-blacklist" request but unfortunately for now it requires manually selecting and updating anyone who you would like to allow to call you while muted.

Answer:
The Market app 'Call Blocker Profile' comes quite close to your specification except for IM. You can get a trial version at https://market.android.com/details?id=com.greythinker.punchback.profile.free.comm

To answer my own question, I settled on Setting Profiles (paid) which also comes in Setting Profiles Lite (free). Though I ended up paying $3.99 for the full version of Setting Profiles, it may be possible to achieve similar functionality with only the Lite version. What I did (full version): - created a 'Normal' profile with my normal settings - created a 'Do Not Disturb' profile with SilentMode=on, Vibrate=off - created a 'VIP' profile with SilentMode=off, Vibrate=whatever - created a 'Silenced' profile with nothing - created a rule "active Normal mode all the time (schedule:15min every 0min? still experimenting)" with lower priority - created a rule "activate Do Not Disturb mode during hours of xx:xxAM-xx:xxAM every day" with default priority - created a rule "active VIP mode if incoming call from contact list and Silenced is not on" with higher priority If you just have the Lite version, you may able to acquire similar functionality with just one rule (that is the handicap of the Lite version; creating multiple rules will cause all but one to be disabled). I think this is possible if you want to ignore non-contacts all the time (ignore all rules except the VIP rule above, and make your Normal profile be Silent, OR manually set Do-Not-Disturb mode; I do NOT guarantee this will work though as I haven't tried it). If you want to automatically trigger a Do-Not-Disturb mode however during evening hours, you may need the full version (unfortunately can't negate some conditions or do full boolean logic).

Your phone may provide some built in options such as filtering based on the Caller ID. For example, phones that use the Android operating system allow you to block callers provided they donât have Caller ID blocked. You can pull up a contactâs record and you should see an option for Block Caller. This panel may differ based on which version of Android your phone uses. If your cell carrier or phoneâs operating system donât allow you to block callers, you can probably find a downloadable app. Ideally, this is a program that doesnât require you to âjailbreakâ your phone. Jailbreaking your phone may cause problems with the manufacturer and impact your warranty so you should consider that option carefully. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.whiteglow.antinuisance
