    Let me put it this way: A mobile phone is an example of all three working together. Electrical engineering would be represented by the battery and the charging circuit. It uses large amounts of electrical power or generates it depending on its usage, and receives/transmits the electrical energy using wires. Electronic engineering is the interface between you and the electrical components, with the different buttons, sensors and actuators that allow you to select various modes of operation. It deals with smaller components like transistors, microchips that use small amounts of electricity and basically supervise the working of electrical components. Telecommunications engineering deals with transmission or reception of data or signals between two or more devices using electrical/electronic equipment. When it comes to scope - I would say go for a more electronics based course, because electrical engineering as a standalone technology has nearly reached a saturation point. However, electrical engineering combined with thermal/nuclear/alternate fuel technology still has a lot of scope if you're interested in it. In this day and age, you have to combine electronic know-how with programming skills as well, and most importantly, have a practical understanding of your domain to be successful. Happy learning!

First of all, let me clarify. All the branches have this so called "scope" because they are created to cater the needs of the industry. Industry always needs people who are proficient in these fields. Unfortunately, people dont bother to achieve that level of sophistication before leaving the college, and hence becomes unemployed. There is no point in blaming a particular branch just because people who studied it cannot find employment. Therefore, if you care about "scope", better study the subject properly. While Electrical engineering is more about high power circuits and stuff, Electronic engineering has more to do with low power electronic circuits. In Electronics and telecommunication engineering, a more emphasize is given on the communication theory from a telecommunication point of view. You get to learn about television, radio, RF and such. Choose a stream that you like and excel in it. There will definitely a lot of opportunities waiting for you. Don`t go behind blind guesses about the "scope" of a subject.

Technically speaking, electrical engineering is concerned with electrical systems that deal in voltage higher than 20 volts. Electrical Engineering is the parent subject to electronics engineering. Electrical engineering -> it is mainly the study of application of electricity and electromagnetism.It also includes portions of electronics and communication engineering but not in an extensive manner.It mainly comprises the study of electrical machines,power systems etc. Electronics Engineering -> I haven't heard about universities awarding only B-tech/BE in electronics engineering it's either punched with telecommunication or instrumentation but still electronics deals with the study of electronic devices and circuits and their application.It is a specialized branch of electrical engineering. Electronics and telecommunication engineering -> it includes the portion of electronics engineering along with signal processing and communication engineering. Scope -> both of these subjects has a good scope job wise,if there were no scope then the subjects wouldnot have been taught...I would advice you to take up the subject which you like...

Thanks for A2A Electrical Engineering is a branch which deals with high voltage equipment as well as transmission line theory , industrial electronics. Whereas in Electronics Engineering you will study semiconductor devices which are operated at low voltage even you will enjoy the programming too & if your interested in designing of  integrated circuits or some new VLSI design you are most welcome in Electronics Engineering. And Electronics & telecommunication is same as Electronics Engineering only here you will get extra knowledge of communication theory like RF comm. Satellite communication & much more.             So choose any one which your interested in, don’t bother about scope of a branch.

Thanks for the A2A Electrical engineering does not involve the study of semiconductor devices and is involved only with the physical laws that govern the transmission and working of electricity. You would be studying about the various electrical network theories, electromechanical machines like motors, generators. Although nowadays in engineering courses, semiconductor devices are included but you dont have to dwell too much into it. Electronics engineering is solely involved with semiconductor devices. Some of the concepts of electrical engineering like network theory find application here. You would be learning how to design microprocessors and design of various electronics circuits for sensing and control. Electronics and Telecommunication is a specialised branch dealing with the dynamics of communication systems. All the concepts of electronics engineering are taught with special emphasis on signal processing, filter circuits, instead of the processor design as in electronics engineering. As for scope, if you are asking from a purely job-oriented standpoint I suggest you go for Electronics and Telecommunication. If you are interested in  research I personally think Electrical engineering is the way to go. Lots of interesting stuff are happening in this domain like wireless transmission, DC smart grids etc. Google about it

Thank you for A2A. As rightly described by Mr. the explanation regarding the engineering differences is quite apt. However I have a different opinion regarding the scope of all the three and according to me the scope for the Electrical Engineering is the maximum. Electrical Engg being core branch and the parent of Electronics, gives you more versatility and options after completion of your bachelor's degree. With electronics your domain gets slightly lesser and the options to chose from are less than that in electrical engineering. Its all about keeping as much as possible number of options till the end to chose from. And Elec. Engg. gives you more. As the options are more you can switch more frequently from one company to other and the options for companies is also more.

Others have explained the difference. I will try to give my view on scope. I assume that by scope you referring to job (not research). If you are aiming for IIT or NIT, its fine to enroll in these courses. But any other college it will make much more sense to get the Computer Science(CS) or Information Science(IS). Because 95% chances are that you will be working in an IT firm (I have seen this happening with my batch-mates) And if you are going to work in an IT firm it makes much more sense to have CS or IS branch. Otherwise through out your engineering days you would be studying something which will not be useful (and good chances are that you will be struggling as well). No, I am not saying that whatever they teach you in CS and IS is 100% useful but its better than others.
