What does Easter sunday really mean?

I was curious about your question, and about the word Easter.  It turns out that the word Easter comes from a pagan festival for Ä’ostre, who is a goddess in Germanic paganism. It was later replaced by the Christian celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. It should be noted that the resurrection of Jesus is significant to all of us -- because of His resurrection, all of us will be resurrected: For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. (1 Corinthians 15:22) You mention the word Sunday, and this is significant to your question.  It used to be that the Sabbath was on the seventh day of the week, in honor of when God was finished creating the earth.  It was changed by the Church to the day that Christ was resurrected, in honor of the day that He ceased from his works: 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.  9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.  10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.  11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. (Hebrews 4:8-11)

It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. You see, he kept saying he was God become a man. Religious leaders didn't like it, so they beat, bloodied, tortured and murdered him. He later proved he was God, by coming back from the grave. You can go check his tomb today, it's totally empty.
