If Wikipedia.com were a private company how much would it be worth?

How much would a company pay for targeted emails? How much are bulk emails worth?

  • I am working on a new Facebook app called Freeload where it captures emails from users (in a legit way -also giving fans a way to opt out), after the app is used, the admin can download a csv file of all the emails.  Let's say 5k targeted emails were gathered, how much is that worth? Trying to figure out a solid pricing structure.

    Evan makes a great point. Make sure your data is 100% compliant. As for the value of the records this depends on user engagement and responsiveness. An email record that was generated from a site/page offering a free ipod is less valuable then an email record opting into a daily financial newsletter. Therefore its important to understand the intent of the user as this will determine the responsiveness of the list. If you are then able to prove that your database is unique, responsive, and clean then you can charge on a CPM ranging from $.50 - $20.

I think prior to establishing a pricing structure, you need to refer to Can-SPAM to ensure that you're not in violation of this rather strict and recently enforced code. You say you're capturing users "in a legit way," but are you also receiving their explicit permission to "opt-in" to your marketing?  Check it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN-SPAM_Act_of_2003

After researching, it's against Facebook TOS to sell any user data so I will be making the blasts within the app.  Now I just need to figure out the price of blasting emails.
