What online group allows users to create private channels?

Would it be beneficial for Quora to make it more convenient to share answers on other platforms?

  • I really enjoy reading some of the Quora questions and answers during coffee break, far more interesting than spending time on other SNSs. I would like to share it on my personal blog, and other platforms with my friends (for example, I've an account in here: http://www.narrativecard.com) Curently the sharing button in Quora is limited for FB and Twitter. Would it be beneficial (in terms of the business) for the Quora team to make it more customized? ---------------------- Social media tools like Facebook and Twitter, etc. take a common approach: "don't make me think" too well. They literally disable the brains of their users by making information creating and sharing too easy. Easiness sometimes inevitably results waste, or information garbage. As a result, cheap and "none-of-my-business" information is stuffed on the page. For users with little interest in other people's personal life and business, such platforms are literally bullshit to their eyes. Now it becomes harder and harder to view something inspiring in those no-brainer social media now. If Facebook team, for example, can spend more time in targeting the users' interest and improve the content feeds, rather than exploring the users' privacy and targeting them with various advertisements, it would be much better. Another reason could be that the group of people in the users' circle is from their school and work, whom may not share the same interest, thus starting a deep conversation would mostly depend on luck. However, this does not mean all the social media sites are useless. It depends on the content, obviously. Social media can be a brilliant tool to form communities and share valuable information in a visually stunning, inspiring and nourishing way. So far, Quora and Flickr are the best I can find in terms of letting users to spend time in a more informative way - at least let them see what they want to see, instead of wasting their time in mindless browsing people's faces. Could there be a combination of Quora and Flickr? I took a small step in experimenting this:http://www.narrativecard.com/ It allows the users to read/post/comment, and start their own blogs likehttp://magento.narrativecard.com/ or http://german.narrativecard.com/. Users can write stories/tutorials, post photos, and also get some hands-on experience in Wordpress, Concrete5, phpBB, Mediawiki, Joomla, etc. And of course it's free. During the process, I've noticed there are lots of interesting things to learn (I even created a search engine for me to find tutorials in a more efficient way: http://learnhow.narrativecard.com/.) It is my first step to create something useful to others, and a firm NO to the no-brainers.

  • Answer:

I think that Quora would benefit from increasing the sharing capabilities. I would help people to built more interesting profiles and share their knowledge, while Quora remains the central platform of distribution. Personally I would also like to publish questions and answers on my personal blog as it helps building a more complete profile. By being able to share it from Quora an option can be left to link back to Quora. Now I sometimes retype and reformulate my question and than the link to Quora is gone (unless I put it there). I do agree however that sharing to just Twitter and Facebook (and LinkedIN) is not the best. I would prefer sharing questions to a specific LinkedIN group for example. On the other hand, so many people so many interests. I think it's hard to find a common denominator and decide what sharing platforms are the best.
