What skills are usually required to be a front end developer?

Anyone want to learn Front-End Developer skills using HTML5/CSS/Haml/Ruby/Sinatra/Compass?

  • I am trying to put together several resources to teach people how to be a front-end developer. I'm looking for questions you may have as a back-end developer, or front-end developer on how to improve in these areas. Please provide me with any questions you may have and I'll write a tutorial to support it.

  • Answer:

You missed Javascript in that list of technologies, and I'd focus on the HTML/CSS/JS stack; there are enough server-side languages and frameworks (and in your list, additional helpers in HAML and Compass) that getting a sense of server techniques and infrastructure patterns is more important than digging into any one of them.

Think of your project more from a library science ense, than just a collection of tutorials to learners in front-end dev.  A reference is a much better way to learn; but still feel free to include a tutorial on the skeleton of concepts.  Even I, who know the area well, would reference such a source and direct others to it.

I'm learning front end, if you need a real student who has tons of questions, I'm the right guy. I'm ready to give you any kind of feedback ))) First question; I'm done with Codeschool's JQuery lessons, now I need a project to work on to improve my coding skills (or to fully understand why I write what I write). 2-question: Should I first learn JavaScript, wanna finish codecademy's course, and then start with my project? 3-question: I need a road-map for JavaScript and Ajax, I bet the very first thing a learner needs is the roadmap from A to Z (meaning what to learn in order to become hirable junior front end dev). Thank you in advance ps: What's the link to your website?

Write about good habits in taken language like reset in css. And first thing in mind, I was looking for a job recently and literelly went into hell - lots and lots of people still use XHTML and proud about it. So you can somehow help such developers to understand, that XHTML is dying and shouldn't be used in future projects. Also: how to be a front-end developer Ruby/Sinatra
