I wouldn't let the other answer deter you from a career that you actually want. The reality is that with either degree, the most important thing is the internship experience that you get. I know Info majors that are SDEs and SDETs, and how did they get those jobs? Through internships. So, how to get the internship? While you are in school do as many side projects as possible, things that you can speak about in the interview to get the internship. Now, the difference between the two programs? Computer Science classes will be more focused on programming, like the other guys said. Informatics will have programming, but will also have writing, visual design, information design, project management, etc. Informatics exposes you to more areas of knowledge, whereas Computer Science hones in one area of knowledge. If you're not sure of what you want as a career, but you know you want to be in tech, Informatics will expose you to a wider variety of career options. If you know you want to be a programmer, sharpen your intellectual sword in the halls of that CS building. The most important with either degree, however, is that internship experience. Use your undergrad status a vehicle to launch your early career success!
