Is it hard to get a bachelors degree in finance?

How do you pursue another bachelors degree without starting from scratch?

  • I have bachelors degrees in accounting and finance but I am interested in going back to school for computer science. This would require me to go back to undergraduate studies (I assume). Ironically, one of my biggest challenges that I face is the fact that I have already graduated from college. I'd like to get a respected degree without having to retake basic courses (i.e. Philosophy 101, Creative Writing, etc). Not only would this would this be a waste of time, it would be a waste of money as well. I'm not sure why people who have demonstrated an ability for finishing what they start should be at a disadvantage to those who haven't yet finished their studies.

  • Answer:

Transfer credits! Most colleges of any size will recognize many of the college credits you've already earned, and let you skip retaking them when starting up your next degree. Many colleges close to each other, or part of the same league can honor more transfer credits than if you start the degree in an out-of-league or out-of-state college. If you're going back to the same college that you earned your previous degrees, then possibly all of your basic courses can count towards the CS degree's requirements. There is also testing out of a course. Fewer college may offer this, but those that do allow you to pay a smaller fee to just take that course's final/exit exams. If you pass them just fine, then you can just get the completion credits for them. Both the transfer credit and testing-out options are typically arranged with the Admissions office.

You may be able to transfer some of the credits you have earned in your previous Bachelor̢۪s program, especially for general education courses. This should help you graduate from your CS program earlier than the usual four years. However, individual schools may have different credit transfer policies, so it̢۪s best to check with the school of your choice about how to get your credits transferred. In case you want recommendations on suitable CS degree programs, I can suggest the one at CollegeAmerica. They offer their Computer Science degree with Programming emphasis as well as some other interesting emphasis areas. http://www.collegeamerica.edu/information-technology
