How can I improve my school work?

How can I force myself to improve my work ethic in high school?

  • I am stuck in this loop of: Procrastinating on homework -> staying up late (2-3am) to finish it -> being tired during lectures -> being forced to sleep when I get home because I am too tired to focus -> staying up late to finish homework. How can I force myself to break out of this loop, especially when I am only mature enough to recognize the benefits of doing so when I am stuck very late at night finishing assignments?

  • Answer:

You have to have proper time management! It all starts with sleep! Get that right first. Sleep early and wake up early (in time for school). After that set aside designated time for activities. You won't be tired after school and you can do your homework then. A good exercise is to write down EVERYTHING you do from the time you wake up till before you go to bed in chronological order. Before you go to bed, look at that list and see where and how much time you spend on stupid activities. Substitute that for goals/homework/productive time. Also, I run a self-improvement/help blog. I would love it if you all checked it out. http://www.leroymilton.wordpress.com I talk more about time management in my second post! Thanks for the support and see you at the blog!

been in exactly the same situation, although I didn't consider high school lectures to be particularly useful, moreover I used to go on nightouts :p,well all you gotta do is stay awake through the whole day (i.e do not sleep after school) and you are good to go ,although I followed the same staying up late routine throughout my exams(bunked my pre boards), because I am more productive at night, still I managed a decent 84% in my 12th standard(PCM with English & Computers)[ISC 2013] :).

Don't. No one has become great at anything by forcing himself. Find out a way to make you study meaningful to you. You shouldn't do it because you are supposed to. A friend of mine who finished college with 4.0 told me that he would think how a particular course will help him achieve his personal goals and that would get it him excited to know what is that course. Try it. It might also work for you.

Remember that the work you do now in high school is the precedent for your future.Your grades affect what colleges you will get into. The colleges you get into will affect what types of education you will be offered. The type of education you are offered will determine how well you understand your given major. How well you understand your major will determine if you get good job offers. The job offers will determine how much money you will make in your career. This, in turn, will determine how tight or free you're going to live your life with your given financial situation.Think about that for a minute.Things like love, family, and emotions can't be bought. Unfortunately, almost everything else can.
