How big is the slot on a USPS collection (blue) box?

Where can I buy a real USPS (used) collection box and/or relay/drop box?

  • I prefer the green ones (relay/drop boxes), but blue's good too. I have been asking the Internet this question for a few years now. For example, see at Google Answers here: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=461674As you can see from the answers, it was not definitively answered. Best options so far--get one from a private company and pay for someone to paint it--hire someone to create (as a work of art) wholly or partially--participate in some way in theft (breaking the law is a BAD option) or collusion (likely a federal crime)--somehow find one at auction, which is not managed centrally, but seems somewhat "local knowledge"

  • Answer:

On the record, nowhere: Collection boxes, including post type, street collection, and relay storage boxes, must not be sold to the public. They must be destroyed by the owning Postal Serviceâ„¢ entity and sold as scrap.[1] Antiques dealers are remarkably good at finding things, though, especially if you're willing to pay for their legwork. But they're not going to list illegal merchandise online, so stop googling and start calling. Leave your name and number with a bunch of different shops and tell them what you want. Spend an hour doing this. Someone will find one for you. They aren't mailboxes, btw. They're collection boxes (blue, left) or relay/drop boxes (green, right).
